Match preview

Freiburg felt they should have at least taken a point against Dortmund. They created four big chances compared to BVB's one, but poor finishing and two second-half red cards ultimately cost them the game.

However, manager Julian Schuster felt that his team didn't play as well as they can, saying: "If you want to get something from an opponent like that, you have to play at your best." "As a team, we didn't quite manage to do that today."

Schuster's team have struggled to turn their chances into goals this season. They've only scored 13 times, which is the joint fourth worst offensive record in the top flight.

Breisgau-Brasilianer have had a tough run in the past few weeks, with the club losing twice in their last four games in the Bundesliga and drawing the other two.

Freiburg's home record is still pretty strong, even though they've been struggling recently. They've won three, drawn one and lost one of their past five games at Europa-Park Stadion.

Meanwhile, Borussia Mönchengladbach were on top form during their match against St Pauli. They created three big chances and produced nearly 2 xG while facing no big chances and conceding just 0.11 xG.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane's side currently occupy the division's Europa Conference League qualification spot and are just three points from fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who hold the final Champions League spot.

Die Fohlen have scored 17 goals and conceded 14, making them the Bundesliga's joint ninth best offensive and joint fourth best defensive club.

Borussia Mönchengladbach have been on a roll recently, winning three, drawing two and losing just once in their last six matches. It's worth noting that their only defeat was a narrow 2-1 loss in the DFB-Pokal against Eintracht Frankfurt in late October.

The visitors have had a tough time away from home recently. They haven't won any of their last five away games, losing three.

Team News

Patrick Osterhage klatscht in die Hände.

Freiburg midfielders Patrick Osterhage and Chukwubuike Adamu were both sent off against Dortmund, while midfielders Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Eren Dinkci are not expected back until January 2025.

It looks like we'll see Maximilian Eggestein and Nicolas Hofler starting in a double pivot behind attacking midfielder Florent Muslija.

In the forward line, Ritsu Doan and Vincenzo Grifo could partner with striker Lucas Holer, who has only started one Bundesliga game this season.

Borussia Mönchengladbach will be without midfielder Florian Neuhaus and defender Luca Netz, so it'll be interesting to see if Seoane puts Rocco Reitz and Julian Weigl in front of a back four featuring Stefan Lainer, Marvin Friedrich, Ko Itakura and Lukas Ullrich.

Yvandro Borges Sanches won't be in the squad, and striker Tomas Cvancara is a doubt and unlikely to be risked.

It looks like Tim Kleindienst will be starting up front, and he might be supported by Franck Honorat, Alassane Plea and Robin Hack.

Possible starting lineup
