La Liga | Gameweek 15

Nov 30, 2024 at 3.15pm UK

Estadio de Mendizorroza

Alavesvs.Leganes

Match preview

Alavés have won four, drawn one and lost nine of their 14 La Liga matches this season, which has left them in 16th spot in the table, three points outside of the relegation zone, with 13 points in total.

Luis García's side started November with a 1-0 win against Mallorca, but they were beaten 3-0 at Villarreal before the November international break and then lost 2-1 to Atlético Madrid last weekend.

El Glorioso were actually leading 1-0 at Wanda Metropolitano until the 76th minute, when Antoine Griezmann levelled the scores with a penalty. Alexander Sorloth then won it for the Red and Whites in the 86th minute.

Alavés finished 10th in La Liga last season after returning to the top flight, but it'll be tough for them to push for a top-half finish this term unless they can find some consistency in the coming months.

The Basque side haven't played against Leganés in Spain's top flight since February 2020, when they drew 1-1. However, Alavés won their last meeting in April 2023, which took place in the Segunda División.

Leganés will be looking for their first La Liga win against Alavés since November 2018 this weekend. However, each of their last three games in the top flight of Spanish football has ended in a draw.

The visitors will be coming into this match on the back of a 3-0 home defeat to Real Madrid, but they've been victorious in three of their last five games in all competitions, including league wins over Celta Vigo and Sevilla.

The current Segunda División champions have won three, drawn five and lost six of their 14 league matches this season, which has left them in 14th place in the table with 14 points.

Borja Jiménez's side haven't yet won any of their away La Liga games this season, but they've drawn four of their seven. Alavés have only been victorious in half of their home league games in 2024-25.

Both teams could end up at the bottom of the league this season, so every match between them is crucial. It's shaping up to be an interesting one at Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Team News

Alavés will be without Hugo Novoa and Carlos Benavídez on Saturday due to injury problems, while Manu Sánchez will miss the contest through suspension, having picked up a milestone yellow card against Atlético.

Head coach Garcia is only making one change to the side that played against Diego Simeone's team. It looks like Aleksandar Sedlar will come on for Sanchez.

Kike García got the nod in midfield last time out, with Toni Martínez on the bench. It looks like that'll be the case again this weekend, while Jon Guridi should be back as the number 10.

Leganés will be without Enric Franquesa due to a muscular problem, but otherwise have a strong squad for their match against Alavés this weekend.

It looks like head coach Jiménez is going to keep the same team for the match against Leganés, even though they lost to Real Madrid. There might be a change in the final third of the field, though, with Dani Raba potentially replacing Munir El Haddadi.

Sebastien Haller is another option through the middle, but Miguel de la Fuente is again likely to lead the line.

Possible starting lineup

Alaves possible starting lineup:

Sivera; Tenaglia, Abqar, Mourino, Sedlar; Guevara, Blanco; Vicente, Guridi, Martin; Kike

Leganes possible starting lineup:

Dmitrovic; Gonzalez, Nastasic, Hernandez; Alti, Tapia, Neyou, Cruz; Brasanac, De la Fuente, Raba
