The Boston Red Sox are deeply entrenched in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, as they're one of just a handful of teams that have met with the free-agent superstar this offseason.

However, if Boston doesn't land Soto on a deal that'll surely be worth over $600 million in the near future, they'll have to quickly turn their attention to other options on the market.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi believes that the Red Sox could target outfielder Teoscar Hernandez if Soto doesn't sign with the club.

"If Teoscar doesn't go back to Dodger Stadium for 2025, I'm gonna make this bold prediction here on November 22nd, I believe he will go to the American League East," Morosi said. "He has phenomenal career numbers at Fenway Park. Now, the Red Sox have been linked and mentioned a little bit with Juan Soto.

"I'll tell you right now, based on what I've been told, I'll be surprised if Juan Soto becomes a Red Sox. If Juan Soto goes somewhere, and again most likely that somewhere else would be New York City, so if Soto signs with the Yankees or the Mets, get ready to listen to a lot of conversation about Teoscar and the Boston Red Sox... I think the top two candidates right now to sign Teoscar Hernandez - the Dodgers and the Red Sox."

Hernandez, 32, earned All-Star honors, for the second time in his career, and won his first World Series in 2024 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 154 games, he hit .272 with an .840 OPS, 33 home runs, 99 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

Boston spoke with Hernandez last offseason when he was a free agent, but the two sides couldn't come to an agreement. Now, as the Red Sox are closer to competing, the move may become more necessary in their minds.
