Sky Sports News understands Wrexham midfielder James McClean will be allowed to leave the pitch via the shortest route possible to ensure his safety.
The EFL have issued a note to all clubs reflecting this stance for future matches.
The Republic of Ireland international has been subjected to racist and sectarian abuse in England, largely due to his decision not to wear a poppy on his shirt in the weeks around Remembrance Day each year.
It’s also understood the EFL have advised a similar process is implemented for other players, if their safety is deemed at risk.
