Brazil legend Ronaldo is aiming to become CBF president and appoint Manchester City's Pep Guardiola's as the Selecao's new manager.
Per Sport, the legendary Brazilian forward will contest for the Brazil Football Federation's president's post which will be vacated by incumbent president Ednaldo Rodrigues in March 2026. The elections, however, will take place in March 2025. The report also adds that Ronaldo's first course of action, if elected to the chair, will be to appoint City boss Guardiola as the Selecao's new head coach.
Guardiola is in the final year of his contract at Etihad Stadium, however, recent reports claimed that he is planning to put pen to paper on a short-term deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026. The Catalan coach has reportedly agreed on signing the new contract and the announcement will be made soon.
Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that CBF are making a 'major play' to bring Guardiola on board and called him on several occasions this year. However, current chief Rodrigues denied the report as he backed Dorival Junior to continue as the head coach of the national team.
The 53-year-old coach is under pressure after the Cityzens lost four matches in a row across all competitions before the international. He would aim to turn things around for the reigning champions this Saturday when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
