In the just-concluded 11th round of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, Uruguay defeated Colombia 3-2. The score of this game was very close. Uruguay experienced a dramatic game from falling behind to reversing to being equalized and finally killing the opponent. It was impressive, and Uruguay temporarily came to the second place in the South American qualifying standings with a goal difference advantage.

Both sides took a passive attack in the first half, and Colombia finally broke the deadlock in the 31st minute, thanks to Juan Fernando Quintero, who scored a direct free kick from a narrow angle near the near post to break Sergio Rochette's goal.

However, the determined Uruguay fought back in the second half. Uruguay tried to narrow the gap and surpass Colombia in the standings, first equalizing the score through Davinson Sanchez's own goal.

Just three minutes later, Uruguay took the lead through Rodrigo Aguirre, who scored from inside the box after Matías Oliveira assisted, dribbling past two defenders and firing the ball into Camilo Vargas’ goal.

But despite all their efforts, the hosts had to fight back once again, with Andres Gomes equalising in the sixth minute of stoppage time to give Colombia hope of a well-earned point away from home.

However, Bielsa’s side had the final word when Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte became the hero of the night with the winner in the 11th minute of stoppage time.

Uruguay moved into second place in the standings on goal difference, just three points behind Argentina after the loss to Paraguay ended their run of form away from home.

Uruguay will face Brazil in midweek, while Colombia will host Ecuador.
