Lee Carsley has claimed Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers should have been in the England squad "sooner" after making his debut against Greece.
Rogers was called up for the first time after eight players, including his close friend Cole Palmer and former Villa ace Jack Grealish, pulled out of the squad for the games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
The 22-year-old was brought on in the 66th minute to replace Anthony Gordon - and impressed on his first outing for the Three Lions.
"People were speaking last night about the inexperience within the squad but these players play week in, week out in the Premier League at a really high level," Carsley said after the game.
"It's testament to Lewis [Hall] and Newcastle that he was able to come on in an atmosphere like that and perform the way he did.
"It's the same with Morgan Rogers, who has been really good at Aston Villa and could have been in the squad earlier."
His Villa teammate Ollie Watkins scored the opening goal in the 3-0 win.
