The French Interior Ministry has summoned French Football Federation (FFF) and Paris Saint-Germain to an urgent meeting after PSG fans displayed a large “Free Palestine” banner before their home game against Atletico Madrid on Wedneday night.

The FFF president Philippe Diallo and PSG director Victoriano Melero have been summoned to the Ministry in Paris at 10am on Friday.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau wrote on X: "I ask PSG to explain itself and the clubs to ensure that politics does not come to damage sport, which must always remain a source of unity. This tifo had no place in this stadium, and such messages are also prohibited by the regulations of the League and UEFA. If this were to happen again, we will have to consider banning tifos for clubs that do not enforce the rules."

UEFA has not opened a disciplinary case at the moment. UEFA regulations (specifically Article 16e) prohibit political messages deemed insulting or provocative messages. Sky Sports News understands UEFA has not considered the banner to be insulting or provocative. UEFA has been approachd for clarification.

A Paris Saint-Germain spokesperson: “The club had no knowledge of the plan to display such a message. Paris Saint-Germain underlines that the Parc des Princes is a place for communion around a shared passion for football and the club is firmly opposed to any message of a political nature in its stadium”.
