Manchester United has just announced that Amorim is the new head coach! The Portuguese coach, who has a great reputation from his time at Sporting Lisbon, will be taking over as head coach at Manchester United. The contract is valid until June 2027, with the option to extend for another year. Amorim's new system will kick off on the 11th of this month.

Manchester United invited Eric ten Hag to be the head coach in the summer of 2022. The team won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup under this coach's leadership, ending a six-year championship drought. However, they struggled in the Premier League. Last season they ranked 8th, which was the worst result in the club's Premier League history. This season they're in a tricky spot, having fallen to 14th after the 9th round.

After losing to West Ham United (1-2) on October 28, Manchester United announced that head coach Ten Hag was being dismissed. Assistant coach Van Nistelrooy has been brought in as interim head coach. Van Nistelrooy made his League Cup debut the following week, and the team beat Leicester City 5-2 to advance to the next round.

Amorim, 39, played for the Portuguese national team and became Sporting Lisbon's head coach in 2020. The following season, he led the club to its first league title in 19 years. Last season, he was crowned the Portuguese champion with Japanese national team midfielder Morita and others. In last night's Portuguese Super League, Sporting CP, led by Amorim, beat their opponents 5-1. This puts them at the top of the standings with 10 consecutive wins, which shows how strong they are.

This summer, he reportedly contacted West Ham United and Liverpool. Manchester City was also interested in him because the future of head coach Guardiola is still unclear. Manchester United reportedly paid Sporting Lisbon a release fee of 11 million euros.
