Estrela Amadora vs Guimaraes
Match preview
Estrela Amadora had to work really hard in their opening game of the Taça de Portugal. They picked up a 3-1 victory over third-tier side Anadia at the Estádio Municipal Engenheiro Silvio Henriques Cerveira last Saturday.
After falling behind to Yan Maranhao's goal in the 25th minute, the visitors fought back and forced the game into extra time. In the 92nd minute, Pedro Gaio scored an own goal, and Rodrigo Pinho and Andre Luiz scored in extra time to turn the game around.
Head coach Jose Faria will be hoping that his side's strong cup performance can set them up for a good run of form as they turn their attention to the Primeira Liga. They had a disappointing run just before the international break, losing 3-0 to Gil Vicente.
Before the loss, Estrela got their first win of the new league season on September 28. They beat Moreirense 2-1 at home thanks to first-half goals from Leonel Bucca and Kikas.
The Tricolores have only won one of their eight games so far in the new Primeira Liga season. They've lost five and drawn two, which has left them with five points and a 16th-place ranking, just one point above the bottom spot held by Farense.
On the other hand, Vitoria de Guimaraes made it two wins from two in the new Conference League campaign. They edged out Swedish outfit Djurgarden 2-1 when the two sides squared off on Thursday.
After a pretty uneventful first half at the Tele2 Arena, Manuel Silva and substitute Nuno Santos scored on either side of Daniel Stensson's 62nd-minute equalizer, giving the visitors the win.
This was on the heels of a 3-1 win against Pacos de Ferreira in the third round of the Taca de Portugal just five days earlier. Bruno Gaspar, Samu, and João Mendes all scored at the Capital do Movel Municipal Stadium, sending Os Vimaranenses through to the fourth round.
After two good cup results, Vitoria de Guimaraes are now focusing on the Primeira Liga. They haven't won their last three games, losing once and drawing twice since beating Famalicao and Braga back in September.
Even though they've had a bit of a rough patch in the league recently, head coach Rui Borges will be pretty happy with how the season is going. They've been unbeaten in six of their first eight games, winning four and drawing two, while scoring nine goals and conceding eight.
Vitoria de Guimaraes currently sits in sixth place in the Primeira Liga standings with 14 points from the first 24 available. They could move into third place with a win this weekend.
