Wolfsburg vs Werder Bremen
Match preview
Wolfsburg have had a tough start to the season, having already played champions Bayer Leverkusen and 2023/24 runners-up Stuttgart, as well as Bayern Munich and third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Wolves took just one point from those matches, although they were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Bayern, 4-3 by Leverkusen and 2-1 by Frankfurt, demonstrating their ability to compete with the best.
In their win over Bochum, Sunday's hosts were perhaps fortunate to take all three points as they conceded four good chances and produced slightly fewer xG than their opponents.
Coach Ralph Hasenhuttl was broadly pleased with his side's performance, noting that he felt it was better to let Bochum have the ball because of the intensity of their pressing.
Hasenhuttl's side have scored 13 goals and conceded just 12, making them the sixth-best attacking and joint 11th-best defensive side in the top flight's 18 clubs.
Wolfsburg have won one, drawn one and lost two of their last four matches, while they have lost three and drawn one of their last four home games in the Bundesliga.
The visitors, meanwhile, lost to Freiburg last time out after Ritsu Doan's 75th-minute winner.
Werder Bremen had 58% of the possession in that game, but conceded three good chances and only created one of their own.
Manager Ole Werner was critical of his side's performance after the defeat, saying they were too slow in possession and struggled to make the most of their promising moments in front of goal.
Werner's side have conceded 10 goals in their last three Bundesliga matches and have failed to score in three of their last five games.
Werder Bremen have lost two of their last three league games, although they have won three and drawn two of their last five away from home in the Bundesliga.
