England fans have expressed their anger after the FA decided to hire Thomas Tuchel as the Three Lions' new manager.
In a swift and unexpected development, Tuchel, known for his success at major clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich, is reported to have finalised an agreement with the FA to become England manager. The 51-year-old will take over in a permanent role from Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after leading England to the final of Euro 2024, with Lee Carsley placed in interim charge.
Tuchel’s appointment is historic, as he will become the first German manager to take charge of any England national team. He also joins an exclusive group of foreign coaches to have managed the Three Lions, following Sven-Goran Eriksson from Sweden and Italy’s Fabio Capello. However, the appointment has been met with strong resistance from some fans given the fierce rivalry between England and Germany.
An English fan, @ScottJonesy, "The once great Nations of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland crumble once more under #TwoTierFreeGearKeir A German. Thomas Tuchel is a GERMAN. What next? A French man in charge of our Ministry of Defence? #BrokenBritain".
While another fan @krisconvery wrote: "German Tuchel as England gaffer? No thanks. Not for me. And it’ll end in tears. 🏴🦁🦁🦁"
Meanwhile, @Seunphology wrote: "Klopp and Tuchel have made recent personal decisions that won’t sit well with a large portion of the German society."
Whereas @danisdriven thinks that the move might usher in a new dawn and wrote: "Nice, it may finally be coming home!"
While @lilsaraah69 echoed his thoughts and wrote: "Thomas Tuchel managing the Three Lions? England’s future just got exciting."
Before Tuchel officially takes charge, interim manager Carsley is expected to oversee two more matches in November when England are scheduled to face Greece and the Republic of Ireland in the final two matchdays of the Nations League. Tuchel's contract is expected to officially start on January 1, 2025.
