FC Barcelona has been beset by financial difficulties in recent years. In addition to the financial regulations and restrictions that impose limitations on expenditure, the Catalan club is confronted with a number of other challenges. Nevertheless, it appears that Barcelona may have outstanding financial obligations to settle.

One such payment may be associated with former Argentine striker Sergio Agüero. The former Manchester City player joined the Barcelona club as a free agent in 2021 and participated in just four games before being compelled to retire due to cardiac issues.

In recent developments, the 36-year-old former Argentinean star has asserted that Barcelona remains indebted to him in the amount of €3 million, as stipulated in the original contract, following its termination. This information has been reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Furthermore, MD reports that while a mediation meeting was held in June of this year, the matter is still awaiting formal judicial proceedings and no specific court has yet accepted the claim. Nevertheless, the request itself appears somewhat unconventional, given the limited number of appearances made by Aguero for the club.

Given the current financial constraints faced by Barca, any additional payments could have a significant impact on the club's financial stability. Consequently, each case must be handled with the utmost attention and the appropriate legal action taken for each one.

Aguero's demands pertain to compensation for the termination of his employment, which he believes he should have received in accordance with the terms of his contract following his retirement due to illness. Consequently, Sergio Aguero is pursuing legal action against Barcelona, seeking damages of €3 million.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, mediation was attempted on 21 June 2024, but the issue remains unresolved. Barcelona has indicated that the claim is currently being adjudicated by the Social Court. As of the date of the report, no official records from the club indicate that the claim has been assigned to a specific court.

Nevertheless, the Argentine player's remuneration is not the sole matter currently under consideration. This legal dispute with Aguero represents merely one of numerous financial challenges currently facing FC Barcelona.

Another case concerns Scores Sports Management, which has filed a lawsuit for compensation for €10 million in fees allegedly owed for facilitating Ousmane Dembélé's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023.

In its defence, the club stated that PSG had paid a buyout clause of €50 million, half of which had been paid to Moussa Sissoko, Dembele's agent.

Furthermore, FC Barcelona has reached a settlement with former player Gabriel Milito, who sought €6.9 million in damages for being unfairly dismissed in 2011. The settlement was concluded on 18 July 2024, a mere few days before the publication of the club's financial report.
