The treble-winning City skipper returned to Etihad Stadium this summer, after spending just one season at Barcelona. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the German midfielder had penned a two-year deal with Barcelona with an option to extend his stay by another year - however, the Catalan giants let him leave for free after just one season as he returned to his former club.
Now according to journalist Joan Fontes, the veteran midfielder reportedly had issues with the behaviour of two of his Barca team-mates before he left the club. Fontes told Bar Canaletes that Gundogan did not like compatriot and Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen's reserved personality as he felt that as the leader of the side, the goalkeeper should have been more vocal in the dressing room. The second player that annoyed him was his former Borussia Dortmund colleague Robert Lewandowski. The star striker's attitude towards young players and his focus on himself rather than helping youngsters in the team bothered the 33-year-old midfielder.
During his brief stay with the Blaugrana, Gundogan had expressed his disappointment with his colleagues on several occasions including this April when he publicly slammed the team's performance after their loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The player will be back in action this Saturday as the reigning English champions look to extend their winning streak to four matches in the Premier League against Brentford.
