Congo DR showed their mettle to claim maximum points with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Elephants of Guinea at the Stade des Martrys in Kinshasa on Friday.

Edo Kayembe, who has scored three goals in four league games this season, continued his fine form in front of goal on the international stage, netting a 27th-minute winner for Sebastien Desabre's side.

Les Leopards are now unbeaten in their last three outings since being eliminated at the AFCON in South Africa earlier this year and go into Monday's clash on the back of two successive clean sheets.

Victory in Dar es Salaam would put the DR Congo at the top of Group H ahead of the October double-header with Tanzania, but their away form has been questionable of late, with just one win away from home since June 2023.

Ethiopia's attacking struggles were once again highlighted in Wednesday's goalless stalemate against Tanzania, which saw them fail to find the back of the net for the fifth time in their last eight matches.

More worryingly for Gebremedhin Haile's men, they failed to register a single shot on target over the course of the 90 minutes, despite enjoying the lion's share of possession in a drab affair.

The Walia Ibex did, however, manage to pick up a rare positive by keeping a second clean sheet in three games, having kept just one in their previous five matches in all competitions.

Having missed out on the last edition of the AFCON, Ethiopia will be keen to get their qualifying campaign back on track at the second time of asking to avoid falling too far behind in the race for a place at the continental showpiece.

Standing in their way will be an opponent who, in their only previous meeting - a semi-final at the 1968 Africa Cup of Nations - claimed a thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory to go all the way.
