Madagascar will go into their second match of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers looking to bounce back from last Thursday's 1-0 defeat to Tunisia.

The Barea were on course for a valuable point until Ferjani Sassi's late goal eight minutes into stoppage time dashed their hopes.

The defeat leaves Romuald Rakotondrabe's side bottom of the group behind Gambia and Comoros, who are second and third on a point apiece, while Tunisia top the standings with three points.

Madagascar will be looking for their first AFCON qualifying win since 2021, having gone winless in the last edition, drawing three and losing three of the six matches they played.

However, the Barea will be hoping to replicate their form from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they won two of four matches, including a 2-1 victory over Monday's opponents, Comoros, in June.

This will be the third time Madagascar have hosted Comoros, with the home side emerging victorious in the previous two meetings on Malagasy soil.

Meanwhile, Comoros began their AFCON qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against Gambia at the Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi last Wednesday.

The Coelacanths took the lead through Youssouf M'Changama in the 37th minute but were unable to hold on, conceding a goal in first-half stoppage time to settle for a point.

Stefano Cusin's side failed to qualify for the 2023 AFCON, finishing third in their group, six points above Lesotho but six behind Zambia and eventual winners Côte d'Ivoire.

However, they have enjoyed an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign so far and currently top their group with nine points after four games, including two wins away from home.

The visitors have made only one previous AFCON appearance, at Cameroon 2021, where they put in a commendable performance for a debutant side before being knocked out in the round of 16 by the hosts.

Madagascar possible starting lineup:

Laiton; Rabemanantsoa, Fontaine, Demeleon, Fortun; NAmada, N'Zi; Randrianantenaina, Raveloson, Lapoussin; Caddy

Comoros possible starting lineup:

Pandor; Bakari, Omari, M'Dahoma, Abdallah; Said, M'Changama, Bourhane, Mohamed, Selemeni; Maolida

Prediction:Madagascar 2-1 Comoros
