According to The Athletic, the 31-year-old winger is on the brink of securing a season-long loan move to French club Lyon. While the agreement between Galatasaray and Lyon is not yet finalised, negotiations are said to be in advanced stages, with both clubs optimistic about closing the deal soon.
Throughout the summer, Zaha attracted attention from several clubs, including his former side Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Leicester had been working on a loan deal, while Palace also explored the possibility of re-signing their former star. However, the financial and tax-related hurdles associated with a return to the UK ultimately deterred Zaha from making a comeback to the English top flight.
Zaha’s time at Galatasaray has been far from ideal. After joining the Turkish giants on a free transfer last summer following the expiration of his contract with Crystal Palace, the winger has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team, starting just 13 Super Lig games last season. This limited game time has fuelled his desire to seek opportunities elsewhere, leading to the current discussions with Lyon.
Lyon finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season, earning a spot in the Europa League, but they have started the new campaign on a shaky note with league defeats to Rennes and Monaco. Lyon fans will hope that Zaha can hit the ground running and inspire the team back to winning ways.
