SAINTS are reportedly preparing to make a loan bid for Arsenal and England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale has become the number two at the Gunners after he was usurped as Mikel Arteta's first-choice shot-stopper by David Raya last season.

He made only six appearances in the Premier League last campaign and the Spaniard remained ahead of him for their win over Wolves.

Saints are in the market for a goalkeeper in the final week of the transfer window, after 27 year old Mat Lis made a permanent move to Goztepe.

The club have registered their interest in Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow, 26, but manager Russell Martin stopped short of suggesting a deal was close.

Saints are tracking the availability of multiple goalkeepers in England and in Europe as they look to bring in one comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Ramsdale is another one of those the club is tracking but Arsenal would prefer to sell the former AFC Bournemouth man for a big-money fee.

Sky Sports have now reported that Saints are now preparing a loan bid for the 26 year old, who boasts 153 Premier League appearances.

They add that Premier League rivals Wolves have held talks for the goalkeeper and are exploring a loan with the option to buy.

Reports elsewhere have linked Dutch giants Ajax among clubs with interest in Ramsdale, who could move ahead of the August 30 deadline.
