Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has reportedly reached an agreement with Napoli over personal terms.

Interest in McTominay this summer has been rife following a stellar individual 2023/24 season in which he plundered a career-high 10 goals across all competitions.

The strongest overtures for McTominay seemed to be coming from Premier League rivals Fulham, who had at least two bids turned down by United.

It’s believed that United want a fee in the region of £25 – £30m to part with their academy graduate. Fulham made it clear that this sum was out of their reach and so they abandoned their pursuit of him.

Gianluca Di Marzio relayed that Napoli lodged a loan offer for McTominay but this was turned down by United who are only open to a permanent sale.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that McTominay is a “priority” target for Napoli boss Antonio Conte. It was stated that United and the Serie A club were still in talks in an effort to thrash out a deal.

A key issue holding up Napoli’s swoop for McTominay is that they need to sell their talisman Victor Osimhen before making additions to their squad.

Osimhen has made it clear that he wants to leave but interested parties like Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have baulked at Napoli’s excessive demands for the 25-year-old goalscorer.

Napoli want to replace Osimhen with Romelu Lukaku but much like in the case of McTominay, they must first offload the Nigerian superstar.

Amidst all this, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reveal that McTominay has agreed terms with Napoli over a financial package.

The news outlet explains that the United man has given his approval although the finer details of his terms with the Partenopei are being sorted out.

“Napoli haven’t given up on Scott McTominay of United: he has his approval (the agreement on the salary is being refined)”

“The problem is the 30 million requested by the club. A very complex investment, without the sale of Osimhen. Everything revolves around Victor.”

McTominay is not the only Premier League midfielder Napoli are chasing. They remain on the hunt for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Billy Gilmour.
