Real Madrid's Jacobo Ramón netted a dramatic winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time, securing a 2-1 LaLiga victory over Mallorca on Wednesday and delaying Barcelona's title celebrations.
Barcelona were on the brink of clinching the title, as a 1-1 draw would have given them an insurmountable six-point lead due to their superior head-to-head record.
However, a defensive lapse by Mallorca allowed central defender Ramón, on his first league start, to volley home from a loose ball inside the box, keeping Real Madrid's faint title hopes alive.
Real Madrid have two games remaining and trail leaders Barcelona by four points. Barcelona, with a game in hand, could secure their 28th LaLiga title on Thursday if they beat Espanyol.
Mallorca took the lead in the 11th minute via an angled strike by defender Martin Valjent during a subdued match at the half-empty Santiago Bernabeu.
Kylian Mbappé equalized with an impressive individual effort in the 68th minute for a depleted Real Madrid side, missing 12 players due to injuries.
Mallorca withstood intense pressure, with goalkeeper Leo Román delivering an outstanding performance, frustrating Real Madrid who dominated with over 72% possession, 26 corners, and 39 shots compared to just four by their opponents.
Román made 11 saves to deny Real Madrid, who squandered several chances.
"Mallorca is a solid team. They scored and then defended deeply. We created many opportunities, their goalkeeper was exceptional, but we ultimately prevailed," said unlikely hero Ramón to Real Madrid TV.
"This is unbelievable; I've dreamed of it all my life. This shirt means everything, and there's no better way to score my first goal."
